Truth and Reconciliation

In late 2024, the Calgary Geotechnical Society established the Reconciliation sub-committee to work towards meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Our key objectives include:

  1. Reviewing the Truth and Reconciliation Committee (TRC)’s 94 Calls to Action and identifying which Calls to Action relate to the CyGS mandate.
  2. Determining appropriate actions for the CyGS to take in response to these Calls to Action, incorporating insights from further learnings and discussions with others.
  3. Formalizing our commitment in writing and sharing it with our members and on our website (an approach modelled after EGBC). This is planned for presentation at our 2025 AGM.
  4. Seeking guidance from public resources and exploring engagement with Indigenous consultants specializing in reconciliation efforts.

We recognize that this work is a first step in the CyGS’ journey towards reconciliation, and this roadmap is intended to be a living document, with the most recent version of the roadmap to be made available on our website. To maintain transparency and accountability, we are planning to include an Annual CyGS Reconciliation Progress Statement to accompany the roadmap in future years.

To learn more about our commitment, see our Truth and Reconciliation Roadmap and Calls to Action document and the table below.
